Model 19's for P.A.?

Question for all the pros out there. I own a pair of Model 19's that I use for the main stereo system in my house. These things sound amazing. I also own a pair of Altec Valencia 846A (16 ohm) from 1969 that I use for my band's rehearsal P.A.--NOT for gigs. We crank them up pretty loud at band practice and they sound great but of course when hooked up to a stereo don't sound quite as good as Model 19's. I have an opportunity to buy a second pair of used Model 19's. I've noticed that the 1969 Valencias that I own have the identical drivers as the A7 from 1966 http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...vott/page6.jpg --the 806A driver, 811 horn, 416A woofer, and the same crossover as the A8 (N 800F, A7 has N800D). I know the A7 and A8 are P.A. speakers, are these (and my Valencias with identical drivers) more suited to (in home) P.A. use than the Model 19's? Or, since the model 19's sound better hooked up to a stereo, will they sound and work better for (in home) P.A. use as well (or will I run into problems like feedback due to their extended H.F. response)? Any ideas as to what considerations/differences/advantages/disadvantages would be greatly appreciated as this will be a fairly expensive move if I buy a second pair of 19's..... By the way, when I say that we currently use the Vals for band practices--I crank synths, guitars, and vocals through them--some of the keyboard patches have lots of low and high end--and some of the (crunch especially) guitars have lots of high end--and we use high quality mics so the vocal are crisp as well..... Interesting Question !

My first instinct is why mess with success ?

I figure the Valencias. are hanging in there because of the following two reasons.

(1) Since they are 16 ohms they are somewhat harder to blow up ( due the higher impedance limiting the available watts fed to them ) .
- Move to an 8 ohm rehearsal system ( like the M19 ) and your existing amp will auto-magically pump out more watts ( until you turn it down of course / as if that happens easily when musicians are in charge of the volume knob ) .

(2) The smaller box is saving the 416 from over-excursioning ( itself to death ) because of the Val's "tighter tuning" ( which works well for SR purposes ) .
- One misplaced low synth note into the M19 and it's woofer will be sitting in your lap .

You can see I don't think it's a great idea . Also, I'll admit to being mystified about those 806a(s) still working ( perhaps they've already have had symbiotic replacement diaphragms put into them , making them 807s ) .

Yes, it is an interesting idea!

You could always stuff the ports of the model 19 to protect the woofer a bit. The worry about over excursion is legit. And maybe a new pair of Pascalite 'frams for the compression drivers would be in order.

Why wouldn't you just pick up a set of A7's from somewhere...possibly with 421-8LF's & 808's (with Pasc diaphragms in them).
You can pick up 421's fairly cheaply, plus a set of beaten up A7's & you're in business.

You'd be able to throw almost anything at them!

Yeah, they are both tuned to around 35 Hz, but with the M19's much greater Vb it has less protection, so it seems best to seal it up and use EQ to boost the ~90-150 Hz BW to mimic the 846's mid bass 'West Coast Sound".

Well the show is pretty popular within certain age groups here ( Hank Hill really reminds me of my dad, HenryK )

I'm originally from Saskatchewan, which in certain parts has a lot in common with Texas .

So, overall the show plays pretty well up here, I'd say .
